Meet the Team: Maksim Rudz, Team Manager & Software Engineer
Maksim Rudz, aka Max, is an avid reader, board game enthusiast, father, and team manager for the Softensity team in Uzbekistan. While Maksim got his start in computer security and Java, his intro to .NET development ignited a passion that changed the course of his career. He now leads developer teams, mentors young IT professionals, and specializes in Microsoft Stack technologies like .NET/.NET Core (C#), MSSQL Server, Azure services. When his trusted mentor accepted a job at Softensity, Maksim followed, and has never looked back.
What does it mean to be a Team Leader at Softensity?
Having one of the leading roles on the project and being responsible for the technical side, I am always super focused on team coordination, high code quality, and delivering features on time. I mentor new employees and help them adapt to the projects.
What made you interested in working in IT?
My parents bought a computer when I was 12 years old. Like many children, it all started with computer games. As time went on, I became more and more interested in how it all works from the inside. Just being a PC user wasn’t enough for me. I tried learning how to edit photos, create 3D objects for games, understand how the operating system works and how to configure computer networks. Toward the end of school, I already knew that I would go to university majoring in information technology. So, I got a bachelor’s degree in Computer Security from the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno in 2015 and dedicated my life to programming.
What are some of the challenges you faced working in IT?
It’s hard to choose only one challenge because each project, each client, and each step in my career has been a challenge in itself because programmers have to learn every day.
The most interesting technical challenge has been creating an offline voice command identifier for one mobile Unity game and implementing a high-load data transfer system for educational institutions. Also, my role as a team manager and a mentor has challenged me to expand my teaching and leadership skills.
What is the best thing about working for Softensity?
The coolest thing I can share about working for Softensity is great growth opportunities. They’ve created all the conditions for people around the world to effectively develop their professional skills. Softensity really is a place where people help each other.
Do you have a favorite type of project or client?
I prefer more work with my favorite technologies stack (.NET, Microservices). Especially if a project will allow me to learn something new or try a new approach.
How has Softensity supported your growth and development as a software engineer?
For one, just being around my highly qualified colleagues has helped me level up both my technology and teaching skills so much faster. But in addition to the positive environment, Softensity makes sure you get the training you need. I visited different meetups which would be quite difficult to get on your own.
Whether it’s paying for my travel to the meetup or the tickets, Softensity doesn’t mind paying for anything that will help you grow in your career. Also, if you’d like to take a course, you just have to ask. These courses have helped me become a better developer, manager and just helped me to better cope with everyday problems.
What advice do you have for someone who’s looking into a career in IT?
The IT sphere is under active development and still needs qualified staff. Even though this area provides many opportunities, it requires special attention and changes your lifestyle. To be an IT specialist is to be an eternal student. You need to constantly monitor new trends to keep up with the times, visit meetups, learn new technologies and frameworks. Also, you should train your technical mind, time management, and soft skills.
That is not to say that IT is only for people with a natural gift for technology. IT is not only for talented people but for hard-working people who are persistent in achieving their goals. To really hone your skills, challenge yourself in some small way daily, and after half a year you will notice how much better you have become.
